I didn’t find a way to flush the buffers (except for using icecast and modify it), but if you send at irregular times (i.e., not 24/7), you might want to have the last DJ on air send a »silence file« as last audio file. (A 30s silence file with an appropriate title might be sufficient. Title just in...

Yeah, maybe I should have said more than just something like »be sure they are served with the MIME type of …«. I usually experience the same with many hosters, so I use this (part) of a .htaccess file usually (actually the same, just with some more types in it I require at times): # .htaccess - Add...

All three are possible, and then some: ⋅ Some sites out there try to »compile« a list of internet radio stations and like to show their users what’s playing (see shoutcast.com , only they let you opt-in and don’t try to »rip« the info from you). ⋅ Someone just checks your station...

If you are as »pure« a musician as some of my colleagues here, you might want to carry your 'puter along to a computer shop and invest the extra $10-20 to have them do it—or ask some computer geek you know. Fortunately, all versions of SAM are well programmed and quite conservative regarding memory ...

SQL error=Access denied for user 'xxuserxxx'@'80.74.147.207' to database 'samdb' The mySQL at place »ABC« (your SAM PC) doesn’t allow the remote access from your web host (running samPHPweb). You have to add a remote user into your local mySQL so that your local mySQL will honour requests from your...

This may not be the reason, but since memory is cheap nowadays, I’d recommend also getting 2 GB RAM and switching off Windows’ page file. Performance booooooost!

Exactly. I’ve had Windows (2k) web servers running for > 3 years without a single reboot, and XP-based SAM stations being rebooted once or twice a year, usually for other reasons like software upgrades. It’s all a thing of reliable hardware and professional software set-up. Then again, if you run a ...

This is actually a very good tip. I also set mine to »Optimize performance for system cache« (as opposed to »… for programs«). On some XP systems, to avoid some problems with »microphone stuttering when talking over crossfades«, it also helps to set »Config/Audio mixer pipeline« to »above normal« (s...

Exactly. Sometimes the need arises to display stream info without having access to a ShoutCast or IceCast server, so one reads the stream for display and disconnects. But at least the interrogating software should set a nice user agent, so you could see and/or block them. If ever you get caught by m...

I guess you are talking about samPHPweb? I use the function Text2Html from common/form.php for that: function Text2Html($txt) { return str_replace("\n","\n<br>",$txt); } and in songinfo.php something like <? if(!empty($song["lyrics"])){?> … … <? echo Text2Html($song[&qu...

I reckon believing in a »perfect« setup someone else made and that you can simply copy is kindergarten because there is no such thing as a free beer. If one runs a »radio« station, one should either know about how such things like Compressors, Expanders, Limiters work or at least have a good audio e...

Same here. Been running everything from SAM 2.8.3 up to 4.2.2 for years now on the same ole machine, using Win/XP Home plus SP2 installed. Never a glitch (this machine is running 24/7 and gets restarted about once or twice a year only!).
