I have been told that ISPs that supply routers have then doctored to make you bandwidth narrower.

Has anyone heard about this and if so is it trooo.

While there are routers that will allow a net admin to prioritize performance on a network, this sounds like one of those "my niece's friend's mother's cousin's hairdresser's dog groomer's brother-in-law's drinking buddy said..." candidates for snopes.com. Where did you get this particular information?

Solution:
Buy and configure your own router.
