Anyway- As I've told a few people in private messages who have inquired- its not like running a station but it does have potential to make ends meet, especially for a dj that takes requests.
And your quite right- there is alot of shadyness in SL- but then where on the internet isn't there?

I made over a thousand this month, with a cost of about $300, which includes web hosting, stream hosting, licensing and money spent on writers to write reviews. I have various sources of income including on site advertising, adsense, and a cpm affiliate thing.
I wont lie, if you're trying to make money with a one page website, you'll never do it. My website has thousands of pages about the music I play (news reviews), and I employ a well-designed, white-hat SEO strategy to get people to the website.
Its hard work, and a lot of the radio people shutter at spending so much time at the website, but you can make decent money with internet radio.

Sounds like you have a very nice, extensive, website. Would like to visit but you have no reference how to do so mentioned here. Never understood why folks don't have at least a quick link attached to everything they post everywhere...

There was more and more and more competition among streamhosts, so I found one selling 100 slots for $23/mo, and went VIP-only (free) at Live365. The guy is real nice and gives me a free boost when WMR puts me at the top of their home page every 2-3 months. So, I just gave up on ads and cut down my expenses. Actually, my only ad now is MS' silly little "Free Stuff!" 75x75 button, which is well worth it given the surge in listeners WMR delivers.

I was, I believe, really fortunate and found a host that offers "unlimited" slots for a little less than twice as much as you are getting for just 100 slots. Now if I could just get some regular listeners instead of the hundreds of rippers I'd be very happy . From what I see and understand about Live365 their interface is the same for all stations and doesn't give the listener a chance to get to your website and see all your great content. How do you get around that aspect of 365?
Had a opportunity to visit your site and was very impressed. You've put a lot of effort into it, especially from what I saw with your artist news. I could not find a link to your forums or a way to sign-up even though there are comments on the page from what appears to be your forums... How in the world can you afford to stream all of those different stations????? I've been looking at breaking down and streaming each of the various types of music I have but it looks like it would wipe out my bank account and my wife's account as well and would only make a streaming host very rich.
Getting back to the "making money" aspect of all this, I discovered a long time ago with a site I had for RV Travel experiences that I had to find affiliate ads related specifically to what people reading the page would be interested in and wound up using a lot of ads for gourme food delivery and RV accessories, and it paid off it paid off very nicely.

Many of us use a banner in the forums there, with an embedded link to our own websites, and/or we can provide a link to our sites if we choose. Live365 has no problem with this, as long as we aren't trying to sell (or solicit funds) anything through their site. We can (basically) do what we want on our own sites.
