Damn, again? Maybe time for a new hosting provider.

I might look into that when I launch the new version of the website and script. The problems have so far either been misunderstandings or errors on my side. Just the sudden shutdown without prior notice is something to worry about, I guess.

I've set up an emergency service on a webspace that was kindly provided by fellow SVS member isaacl.
For the time being this does not include any data from the old server.
That means:
If you don't do anything, your PAL will no longer hang up the whole SAM, but it will also not publish any new posts.
If you go to sam-song.info and do the settings again, you can use it like normal.

Settings you do differently than on the original server will be lost when I get the original server back.

Should you encounter any problems with that, please write a message and I'll look into it as soon as possible. (I'll keep an eye on the forums and Facebook tomorrow/today afternoon and evening. (At the time of this writing it's 3 AM on the 3rd of January)

When I try to go to https://sam-song.info/twitter/settings I get this

Am I missing something? Thanks for your efforts.

I'm investigating that problem myself currently.
Must have missed something during the setup.

I don't have problems with german umlauts on a MySQL database using UTF-8 encoding and the ID3v2 tags obviously also containing UTF-8 encoded data.
I've noticed quite a few reports about this in the last few months though.
While I understand that this is a nasty bug, it might be hard for the Spacial developers to reproduce this, considering they are mostly living and working in countries that don't use anything but the US-ASCII symbols for their home language.

You might need to provide example files to them.

I know that it's hard to get your issues acknowledged by Spacial support by times. Seems like they have to deal with DAUs (german acronym for dumbest expectable user, derived from GAU) most of the time and treat knowledgeable users the same way by default.

I don't have a problem with SAM displaying these characters ie: Mötley Crüe or Queensrÿche but, when sam-info posts them the artist & song are blank. Any ideas on this?

We have exactly this same problem. We play music from all over the world, a lot of which uses these extended characters in title and/or artist.

Just throwing our virtual hat into the "ring" as far as this issue is concerned.

That's strange.
Can you please open a ticket via the support and feedback button on the right edge of my website.
Please log in to twitter/facebook first or provide your relevant username in the userid field manually and include a few sample titles that fail.
This thread is so cluttered by now that it's hard to keep track on problems and bug reports this way.

Just an FYI

When SAM attempts to run the PAL, it crashes.

A clue: www.sam-song.info seems to not exist.

When you get a chance would you check please?

I’ve paused the PAL, so please let me know when I can UNpause it.

THANKS!

Sorry, forgot to mention that.
I'm doing some major maintenance on the server at the moment and won't be available for the better part of the day today.

One of the harddrives in the server is reporting SMART errors and obviously caused the RAID volume to crash in the last few weeks.
Now we replaced that harddrive and are waiting for the RAID volume to finish syncing before I allow the other services on the server to start writing to the harddisk again.

If all goes well, we're back online by the end of the day. I'm also testing a new PAL script since yesterday and will probably release it tomorrow. That will then no longer freeze SAM in case the server is unavailable.

As already mentioned in the social media presence, the RAID sync completed and all services were enabled again.
Should you encounter any problems nonetheless, please notify me ASAP, so I can have a look.

I've uploaded a new PAL template that now uses WebToFile instead of WebToStr.
I couldn't reproduce the hangup problems many of you reported, but at least in theory this should be more resilient against networking problems.

The new PAL will be served for download whenever you hit the save settings button on the sam-song.info webservice.

As this thread is 44 pages long it's a little hard to search for an answer so I was just wondering, is there any plan for a G+ version? Just curious.
