So Ive been looking and I'm seeing various types of rotation types and I'm curious is there a list of them and their functions?

Is there a Sam wiki?

I have about 350 songs in rotation and some of them receive way more play than others. Recently looking I see that some have as many as 3500 plays with very few requests and other songs have just 10 or so plays and a majority of those are requests. I'm looking for better balance in those numbers. Any assistance or ideas?

There is a knowledge base on the Ticket System website for contacting Spacial Support, but that doesn't explain any of the rotation types or selection methods.

There is a Wiki, that is no longer maintained and has received it's last updates in the early days of SAM 4. This Wiki does not contain any explanation on the rotation types either.

The SAM manual is outdated as well and was last updated in 2006. However it is still the most valuable resource for learning the basics of SAM.
If you open the chapter "Reference Guides" and look at the section "Selection Method Logic" that explains the difference between the available selection methods.
The rotation types (Category/Weighted/Web scripting) are explained in the chapter "SAM Configuration" inside section "Playlist Rotation Rules".
The manual can not be opened from the SAM Help menu ever since Spacial redesigned their website, but the manual is still shipping with SAM as a file.
You can find the file in SAM's Program Files folder in the help subdirectory. It goes by the name SAM-BC.chm

Selection methods

*Weighted (smWeighted)
Each song has a weight assigned to it. The higher the weight, the more often it will get played under weighted rotation logic. A song with a weight of 60 will get played twice as much as a song with a weight of 30.
*Priority (smPriority)
The songs with the highest weight will get played. Always enforce playlist rules or the same song will get played continuously until its weight decreases below another song's weight!
*Random (smRandom)
Selects a song totally at random from the category.
*Most recently played song (smMRP)
Selects the song with the newest play date.
*Least recently played song (smLRP)
Selects the song with the oldest play date.
*Most recently played artist (smMRPA)
First, it selects the artist with the newest play date. Then it will select the song from the artist with the newest play date.
*Least recently played artist (smLRPA)
First, it selects the artist with the oldest play date. Then it will select the song from the artist with the oldest play date.
*Lemming Rules (smLemmingRules)
Lemming rules randomly selects a selection method, and then uses that selection method to select a song. This gives a very nice random selection.

This is some really good information. Any preference to a rotation type? I'm leaning towards Lemming (need to try it)

You're not limited to a single selection method. You can choose a different selection method for every rule in your clockwheel.

I believe it's 'smLemmingLogic', not 'smLemmingRules'.

We use a combination of smLemmingLogic, smLRP, smLRPA, and smRandom to keep things as strange as possible. (That's how we roll. :) )

I don't know if that's changed with the latest version of SAM. We've been running 4.9.8 for quite some time with very few issues.

The quote is from the SAM manual and that is way older than the release of 4.9.8.

I'm pretty sure this is just a typo in the manual and has always been smLemmingLogic.
But you can just create an entry using that method via the Buttons in the GUI and see what that yields.

If there is an error in the logic for the clockwheel rotation method will Sam error? Because I was using the lemmingrules not lemminglogic and I didn't see any messages or errors.

Nope, you won't see any errors. You can even type in a completely made up selection method and SAM will do something.
SAM apparently falls back to one of the included methods, but don't ask me which one.
