I'm looking for you guys opinion/experiences with DSP plugins & SAM.
Any suggestions? What's a good DSP plugin? My stream is 128k at the moment.

Thanks!

What type of DSP plugin are you looking for.
At this point with SAM 4 , unless you have an unusaly need, you don't need any DSP plugins.

What are you wanting the DSP to do?
Thanks

if theres room for improvement in audio quality I think a DSP would do it. What you think?

Have you tired the built in AGC in SAM
That may be just what you are wanting.
If you go to Confix in SAM and then the audio mixer pipeline and the mixer
you can set up the AGC and try different settings.

Im now using AGC / have been and the DSP plugin above suggested by WDA1 is great however increases my CPU utilization by 15%. I'm running a box with prescot 3.0Ghz single core processor and with SAM running I see 15% CPU. The DSP processor takes another 15% resulting in 30% minimum CPU.
Once I move SAM to its own box (dual core 2.0Ghz CPU box) I will be able to afford DSP on.
All in all the built in AGC on SAM4.3.4 does a great job even at its default settings.

I thank you guys for the input!

Yeah... it uses a good chunk... but we've learned to accommodate for it. I'm still learning my way around it, and constantly tweaking the levels...

enjoy.

I've used Sam for a long time and never got the perfect sound from the included DSP, dont get me wrong "Love The Software" but tried other plugins, but never got the sound quality, I even created other AGC Presets and was happy for a while, but I'm allways in search for better sound quality and for the last 8 months I have not even glanced at my settings, I think I found the perfect setup Vista and XP(I use 2 machines running Sam) you can dowload my settings and DSP plugins here:

Let me know if this works for you!

I like the Sound Solution solution. I think it makes my 64 k stream sound pretty good.

Love Stereo Tool. I use it. But it is a resource hog with all the processing it does...makes your system seem kind of "thick", but it is well worth it. I am still looking for a station that is using Breakaway, to test the sound out, and compare. But for now Stereo Tool is hands down the best DSP for SAM. No AGC here. Stereo Tool is @ the end of the pipeline on mixer. I have used quite a many different Audio DSP plug-ins over the years: Enhance, Tomass Limiter, Tom Steady, Sound Solution, SqrSoft Limiter. All of these plug-ins are really good. Stereo Tool takes the makings of all of these DSP's and packages them in one application.
I think stations need to find one that works for their sound and their taste and stick with it. Stereo Tool for me all the way.

stereo tool 5 yrs + nothing else is close. I belive sound solutions is the author of the built in sam dsp. yes cpu on my 3.4 runs at 55% but i sound like the big boys here. had djs hunt me down looking for job at the "new" station in town. You really need to understand what you are doing with a DSP like this to get the most out of it. no longer low cost for the pro version.

Trying out stereo tools right now and not concerned about cpu usage. I've plenty of that. At least to me it's easier to use than the AGC stuff provided in SAM

I am a nut about the quality and sound of my broadcast. The very best DSP Plug I have found is the Tomass Limiter. Works great for me and delivers the HD sounds I look for.
