Hi all,

I seem to of got the SAM Broadcaster working beautifully with all my tracks. The mixes are all smooth crossfades, without sounding chopped, with no premature cuts.

I tried adding station IDs (at this stage after every track) for experimentation. SAM refuses to play any of my ID's. I have four 5 second station ID's in that particular folder. When I manually place the ID into the playlist, it chops the last 6-8 seconds of a song off, and sounds very choppy.

I've placed the following into the config>playlist rotation rules>configure dialogue.

Cat['Tracks'].QueueBottom(smRandom, EnforceRules);
Cat['Station IDs'].QueueBottom(smRandom, NoRules);


So i'm basically telling sam to play one song, then one of my IDs, then one of my songs and so on.

Upon yahooing this, I got one page about SAM Broadcaster PAL (Playlist audomation Language), which looks somewhat tricky. Do I have to know this to program IDs into SAM? and if so, can somebody suggest a website that explains the PAL step by step?

Please review Crossfading in the SAM Help files.
Check your "Do not crossfade or fade..." settings for the short files.

I've unticked "Do no crossfade or fade 45 seconds or less in duration".

Still just keeps going to track to track without promos.

Please list your crossfade settings. I suspect your defaults are too stringent. You may have to modify the promos on an individual basis.

All my audio files are normalised at -0.10db (98.86% of peak volume), have a 200ms silent intro, and finish off roughly with about 2 seconds of silence. In keeping consistant, I treated my station IDs the same with with the same volume, intro silence and outro silence. I don't know what else I can do?

By checking the SAM Broadcaster help section for Cross fades, it simply notes the three different fade styles, and how each one works. The last point on the help page talks about the "Do not crossfade or fade 45 seconds or less in duration: function, and why it wouldn't sound good having a 3 second fade on a 4second promo., which I've checked.

For smoother mixes I have switched off the "fade in" function, but have left the "Fade out function on" with a S Curve. The next track triggers, when the end of the previous track gets below a certain volume level.

Also for getting rid of click sounds during mixes, I have removed the gap killer for the start of the track, but have left the tick on "remove silence from end of track".

So when you note that I may have to treat my promo's individually, could you please elaborate? Do you mean longer silent gaps, or soften peak volume in normalisation stage? Thanx

I've gone through the manual, and have come accross some exhamples on creating simple play lists, by using PAL.

I've made a direct copy of one of the play lists, then substituted the names for the names of my categories.

I've gone to Window>Pal Scripts>created a name.pal, the opened the IDE editor, then inserted this:

PAL.Loop := True;

Cat['Tracks'].QueueBottom(smRandom, EnforceRules);
Cat['Station IDs'].QueueBottom(smRandom, NoRules);

PAL.WaitForPlayCount(1);
until Queue.Count < 3;
-----------------------------------------------------

Ran the scrips, then got this,

Syntax error ":" expected line 7: column 1]

It identifies the word "until" as the error.

What we have here is a simple clockwheel. All you need is:

Config>Playlist rotation rules>Clockwheel>Configure

This will alternate between Tracks and IDs until you tell SAM otherwise.

Switching off Gap Killer and disable Fades and XFade on the Station IDs usually helps. I even »prefill« the ID3v2 Tags on Liners, Jingles and Drop-Ins with

XFade &fie=0&foe=0&xf=0&ge=0
SongType J (or other appropriate letter)

(This helps avoiding manual »Song Info« edits on material freshly dropped in from a folder, i.e. spoken artist liners and drop-ins.)
