What is the difference between these two output drivers?

Which one is more stable, or when are they used.

DirectSound output vs Kernel Streaming output

Use the one that gives you better buffer results.
I'm using Kernel Streaming because I got a old Terratec sound card that
when on DirectSound the latency need to be too long for a good result (about 400 ms).
With Kernel Streaming is ok with 196 ms latency.
