I tried searching for this subject and only found a single post from years ago. I am having this issue currently.

When I was running SAM on Windows 7, I could RDP into the machine and when I exited, SAM would continue to run. No issues.

I upgraded my streaming machine to Windows 10, current version of SAM 2018.10, and the version of mysql 5.7.x. The problem is that whenever I log into the streaming machine with RDP, as soon as I log out of RDP, SAM stops responding. If I keep the RDP session running, SAM works just fine. I have made sure that I am not redirecting resources, etc. I am using RDP exactly the same way as before when the streaming machine was on Windows 7.

Am I missing a Windows 10 setting that is causing the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but no.
I personally have little to no experience with RDP at all.
It's way easier to set up stuff like TeamViewer or even VNC for me.

I use RDP to connect to 2 remote computers .. a 2016 Windows Server and a 2012 Windows Server.

It works fine for me. I believe it is a setting in your Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, or Terminal Services. You will just have to search around for the correct setting.

Ugh... I hate RDP. 95% of my real life is spent remote controlling into other PCs. My preference is to use LogMeIn, but it's not free anymore (we use a corporate account for our clients). TeamViewer is the next inline, although I don't like their cross-version issue (can't remote into a higher version from a lower version), but it's what I use to remote into my SAM boxes.
RDP has so many issues, and locking the user's computer on exit is one of the worse. Try this, and see if it helps. Instead of just closing the connection, go to the Start button of the remote and for power/logoff, see if there is a "Disconnect" item. If so, use that and see if that helps.
But, consider installing TeamViewer. So many advantages with this method over RDP.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will look more into the group policies. If it were just me, I would use some other software, but I have DJ's, who are not very technical, and need to access the streamer to pause the stream so they can pick it up from their SAM session. RDC is something they understand. Other software may not work.

LOL.

You have quite the strange clients.
RDP is hard to understand, easy to mess up, lots of "procedures" to remember (i.e. do not log out, always disconnect or lock the computer instead OR this is a remote machine, not your own machine, even if there's no way to discern the two, you can't access your local files from the remote app)

I tried looking at the policy settings, to no avail. Tried "disconnect" to no avail. Looked at Teamviewer ... yikes! ... $49/month? I am a no income radio station! That is beyond my budget! Did I miss something on their website?

Yep, it's free for personal use.
Also 49 USD/mo? Yikes, they clearly make you pay for Trump :P
Over here the business version is 27,90 EUR /mo (~32 USD and that is including 19% VAT)

Not sure if win10 and win7 use the same RDP style but in win7 RDP I click "show options" then "display" tab, use Full Screen slider to go to Large then at the bottom box check it for "Display the connection bar when I use the full screen". Now when I am done using RDP there is a connection bar at the top and I just click X

@armor - Thanks for the tip .. that is exactly what I have for my Windows 2012 and Windows 2016 servers.

So it should also work on Windows 10.

vetteracer - Try it out !!

No Problem, I sort of remember I had the same issue once, and stumbled onto the connection bar thing.

I just use the personal free version of Teamviewer now. Works great! You all are correct ... it is much better than RDC.
