People have told me to make sure that the mic setting is set in stereo. There is no audio setting that allows me to change that in my system settings, but I know that my mic is in stereo, because when i turn on my direct monitor switch, i can hear myself through both speakers.

Here is my set up. I have a focusrite scarlett solo 2nd generation that is my interface, plugged in usb. it has left and right speakers out, which i have connected to 2 powered jbl speakers.

the front of the scarlet solo has 2 inputs, one mic which i have connected with an xlr cable. the 2nd input is supposed to be for guitar, but i have nothing plugged into that. there is also a monitor knob and a direct monitor switch which i can toggle, which i can hear myself through both speakers when the direct monitor is on. i dont have that on because ill get feedback when i turn on my mic in SAM.

How can i get SAM to let me go stereo instead of mono? is there a setting in the program itself?

Does your mic XLR have 5 connectors or 3?
3 connectors = signal, ground, return
5 connectors = signal1, signal2, ground, return1, return2

So for a set of stereo microphones, you need a 5-pole XLR or 2 separate XLR connectors.

Otherwise microphones are by design only Mono and unless artificially expanded will give you an identical signal on both the left and right channel of a stereo monitor / processing system (here: encoder/radio output)

If you want actual stereo, you either need 2 microphones or some software/hardware that will simulate stereo by calculating the different signal runtimes of various frequencies. (It's more complicated than I can grasp or convey in a single sentence)

To sum it up:
Configure your mono mic to mono or turn on stereo expansion as otherwise the mic will only appear on one of the two stereo channels.
