When clicking on Listen, I do get the media player pop-up box, and it displays the currently playing song. This is good.

However, I also cannot play. VLC is the default media player on my computer, so perhaps there is a compatibility issue between the SAM HTML player and VLC.

I'm also unable to get the listen button working properly. It was suggested that I look into a different player.

The player included in the SAM templates was originally created in the early 2000s or late 1990s. Probably because there was no other technology than relying on a native player installed in the OS to handle the playback. With the advent of Macromedia (Now Adobe) Flash there was a solution for some types of audio to be played without relying on a player in the OS. This has become the defacto standard and the preferred way to handle this in the past 10 years and is about to be replaced by the HTML5 <audio> tag in the next few years.
Browsers and audio players may no longer support the outdated <embed> or <object> tags properly and are most certainly no longer tested against this support in various browsers.
The best chances of getting this to work is with Internet Explorer as the default browser, Windows Media Player as the default audio player and MP3 as the streaming format.

That's why it's called a template and not an "unchangeable one-size-fits-all website". You can modify the template packages and use only those parts you like or you can even just take it as a mere inspiration and write your own website system from scratch.

Mastacheata, do you have any URLs where a custom player is being used, such as an HTML5 player or some other flash player? This would be most helpful. I'm going to try to edit the HTML to use a common HTML5 player and then fallback to a flash player for users whom on are a browser that does not yet support HTML5, and having an example URL of something like this would be very helpful.

Ive used this flash player with great success

Doesn't seem to crash IE or have an ugly mem leak in it like so many other do. Good luck with it!

I pretty much like the player(s) from wavestreaming.com
I don't have any own website or station at the moment and most of my clients use heavily customized websites that have very little in common with the standard SAM templates.

Thank you very much. I plugged away at this for another couple hours today, and made some great headway. I hope you'll be excited to know that I really love to write up how-to tutorials, and I've been documenting my entire learning process and bumps in the road I've had, so once I've this all working well, I'll publish my version of the how-to tutorial on this, which hopefully will help out others also :)
