I have some listeners in countries with slow internet speeds. What is the best streaming rate to enable quick connections for these listeners? I currently have 64kps and 24 kps streams.

Should I be more concerned about the buffering settings on the Sam broadcaster?

Are you streaming music at 24k or just speech?

At 24k you're audio quality is worse than with a transistor radio in a thunderstorm and transmitting that via telephone lines.

I am streaming music. Wow, that is terrible. Is the 64K good for low internet speeds, or should I go higher?

That depends on what you define as low speed obviously.
I'm living in the middle of europe and internet speeds are quite good here.
The only problems are with mobile speeds and when you run into your monthly traffic limits.
Mobile speed varies depending on reception from somewhere below 100 kbit/s (mostly due to high latency not so much due to real bandwidth problems) up to 150 Mbit/s with LTE Advanced (Also known as 3.5G because it's right in the middle between two technologies or 4G because of the significant speed bumps even though in the US they already labeled HSPA+ as 4G)

You hardly get an ADSL line slower than 2 mbit/s and assigning 1/40th of that speed to an internet stream should really not matter.

I wouldn't go below 48 kbps HE-AAC/AAC+/AACv2 or below 64 kbps mp3. Personally I don't listen to anything below 96k aac+ or 128k mp3

Thanks for the help. For low speeds I am referring to dial up speeds.

Dial-up is no longer existent in germany. (Yeah, of course there's probably someone sitting with his 14.4 modem in the cellar, but this is one person in every million.
Slow internet speeds here are mostly due to mobile internet.

We have a 32K AAC+ stream that the extremely rare slow internet users connect to with varied degrees of success. The connection requires 4K/s, which is achievable on dial-up if one has a very solid connection.

It's been years since anyone contacted us who had a dial-up connection, however. We keep the 32K stream around because it sounds pretty good and is easier on mobile users with limited data plans.

I've noticed that 64Kbps AAC+ is becoming the norm, and more people prefer it to save Bandwidth
