Question:

We have a P2P Phone program and we are wondering how we can get a source on the soundcard to stream on to SAM for an interview. We have tried just about everything we could in the VoiceFX menu. Any suggestions?

Answer:

Important: If you press the RED button on SAM, you need to do the following to make VoiceFX work properly.

  1. . Follow these instructions to set up Configuration 2:

Correct Audio Pipeline configuration
This is to ensure the VERY BEST quality crossfades and audio.

  1. . Set up your soundcard mixer record settings to record \"What you hear\"

(This is sometimes also called "Wave", "Stereo", "Mix"

  1. . Press the RED button on the encoders. This *should* now stream everything being played over the soundcard.
  1. . Now finally we need to set up VoiceFX
    1. Click on the Config button on the VoiceFX panel
    2. Select the "Playback only (Skip pipeline)" mode
    3. Select the correct soundcard from the dropdown list
    4. Now select the "mic" Volume control from the dropdown list

SAM will use this line to "mute" and "unmute" the microphone when needed.

Finally make sure that the volume level on both the Recording and Playback levels of your "Microphone" volume control is high enough so you can HEAR yourself speak when you talk into the mic.

If the volume is MAX and you still have trouble hearing yourself or your voice is really soft it *might* be that your soundcard is simply not putting enough power through your mic. I've had this happen plenty of times with cheaper soundcards.

Once you can HEAR yourself speak you are ready to roll. To start talking , just press the "Talk" button on VoiceFX and your mic will be unmuted and you can talk. As soon as you release the button the mic will be muted again.
