I have a good sized CD collection (around 400 CDs) and a growing vinyl collection (around 30 records). Most of the records I've bought so far are new pressings of the CDs I already have.

Most of the kit is in my flair, but the amp and CD is a Roksan K3. Record player is a Project 2 Xperience with the stock Ortofon 2M silver.

Most of my vinyl records sound very similar to their CD counterparts (with some highs rolled off and less clarity).

I'm wondering if I'm missing out on that "vinyl sound" due to the cartridge. I did audition a Rega Elys 2 on a Planar 3 and Rega ania on a Planar 6. I really didn't like the Elys 2 - it sounded muddled (considered a neutral-to-warm sounding cart) to me and like it couldn't resolve the audio properly. The Ania sounded a little clearer than the Elys 2 to me, but not a huge difference to the 2M silver.

My question is, do people that own recordings on CD and vinyl tend to err towards different sounding cartridges (CD for colder / analytical sounding and vinyl with a warmer cart?) Or is it a case of "I just like the colder sound so stick to that and use analytical carts".
