Sorry if this is not the right forum for this thread. But, after 23 years of radio, I never have had a real heavy 'Personality' show. I just did what I did and was successful in doing that. Did a little funny, but was more the 'personable' kind of personality.

So here goes the question: When you do a live show, how often do you break in the music? I always stopped something in between every song. Did weather, promo, news bit, time and temp.Always something. Even a sweeper.

Now that this is an internet station and you could conceivably have listeners all over the world. They really do not care about your traffic reports. What do you do in the breaks? How often do you do your "bits"?

I do a two-hour morning show. 7 a - 9 a PST. That is another issue. My time zone could be way off from a listener in South Africa. How do you program for that? If you do a little show let me know where to listen?

I am thinking that wherever I am, and wherever the listener is, the station has to have an identity. Your time and temp are not relevant to the East Coast if you are in LA. You can't compete with local radio.

I use Live365 so am unlimited on listener slots, I also have a 500 slot server as well.

Just talk to me. What are you doing? I run about 400 listeners at any time. So it is not bad - but could be better.

What do you think>?

At 400 listeners, I guess you're already miles ahead of 99% of the SAM community.

You probably already have a certain community with shared interests or shared personal background, so I would focus on the things that make up your audience. It's hard to tell a generic answer here.

I had absolutely no idea that there was such a disparity in listenership. I thought I was on the low end.

Maybe I should be the one giving out advice. :)

I am just looking at trying to increase my listenership. My audience varies dramatically on holidays and weather. Weather, of course, affecting internet connectivity.

About half of my listeners are local, within my region of Southern California. So I do spend some effort rationalizing the news, weather, and conversational bits. I try to keep the other audience members involved with little contests, (hardly ever any prizes, just recognition).

I have several link connections. I register at every place that offers a link to my station. There are hundreds out there.

I make a big deal out paying music royalties. Being here in Southern California I get a lot of submissions from new artists. Recognition as a Royalty paying station is important in this area. I get a lot of listeners through the local recording studios. By playing some of their artists I get publicity in their blogs.

I just recently got listed on a hard-list (hard encoded into their internet radio listings). Ocean Digital lists my Internet station directly in their impeded "Featured Stations". I am trying to get a deal worked out with them for promotional consideration.

I have 3 major streams. I run three encoders from my SAM software. Live365, and two others with a total of 1000 slots. It is the one I started with and have many listeners there.

I report to a couple of countdown services, that gets me a lot of listeners and recognition.

All this to say, I work hard for what I have. My station sounds damn good. I listen to it on Alexa and it Rocks.

My years of radio give me programming expertise that is quite the snag for listeners and business networking. I do interviews with artists, local business people, too. I am also considering picking up a laptop and doing a two hour remote from local businesses and restaurants. As soon as this COVID-19 thing clears up, that is a project.

I want to do local sports broadcasts. I have already done a couple to work out the kinks. That is fun and grabs a lot of listeners on a long term basis.

The bottom line, it takes work. There is more, but I do not wish to bore anyone. I just want to hear about what others are doing. If we can get a little dialog going it can help everyone. So let's go.

Your confirmation is well received and respected. 99.9 of the listener never responds or ever is heard from. I found that out in terrestrial radio. So bouncing stuff off of peers is about the only thing to do.

It is a thing that; when you never hear from anyone, you wonder about things.

Thank you for your response. It is appreciated.

Well. need to prepare for the Friday show. I overslept and need to haul - butt.

Have a good morning.
