Do I need to purchase Virtual Audio Cable software to take calls via skype if I have an audio mixer?

You can of course use Skype in SAM without the VAC software.
You should better have an additional soundcard output for Skype though. (either through a second soundcard or through the rear channels of a 5.1 soundcard)
