This problem has been driving me crazy for years... best i can do (since I use a mixer like the poster above) is monitor the music through the aux on the mixer at a very low level while hearing my mic louder...as to not be as distracting. Changing the pipeline settings works ok as well, but i like for my mic to go through the final processing DSP before going to the encoders.

But I had an idea that didn't work, and I am curious as to why. I tried doing a "mix minus" by having the music in cue & air....and mic in air only...then just monitoring the cue....but that didn't work. When I activate the mic, the cue audio (from the deck selected as both cue & air) goes dead.

Well the good thing is that the VoiceFx has it's own DSP too. You could use it or use a really good winamp plugin to process the mic/line coming into it. That would allow you to really tighten up or process your mic before sending it to the encoders.

Yes, I use another DSP (compressor-wider) on the mic to keep the levels consistent ....but i still like for everything to go through the final Processor (Stereo Tool) before going out,so everything is all smashed in there together. if i go straight to encoder, i'm on top of the music....i like to be IN the music...if that makes any sense

another thread suggested adjusting the buffer settings. I was able to get it down to a 45ms max latency without the quality being affected and is MUCH better. Now it's more of an echo than an actual delay (it was at 250ms....hard to work with that)

thanks for responding. Always nice to see a 3yo thread get re-awakened :)

There's going to be latency from the software processing all of this audio to get it online. There's a reason 'they' muted the mic audio, so you do not hear this. Seems normal to me. You should use a separate audio mixer to process the mic audio and hear yourself from that device, instead. As long as I see audio levels on the encoder; that tells me that I'm online. I myself would love to monitor the processed audio of SAM in my headphones. Sounds like as true commercial FM station. SAM uses Orban plug-in for audio. Sorry to be blogging in your post.
