came home from a vacation to find my computer down from a power outage, restarted but SAM Broadcaster was unable to come up - it would run but not display (2018.3) so I uninstalled and reinstalled it and upgraded mySQL to 8. Trying to reinstall SAM but it will not create a new database saying mySQL is not running (it is) or my root password is wrong (it is not). Does 2018.3 not run with mySQL 8 - i'm at my wits' end here.

IIRC there are some compatibility problems with MySQL 8 as highlighted by this changelog entry:

I looked at 8.0 ages ago.
I think they introduced a new authentication method as default.
You should look at using the legacy authentication to log into SAM
Pretty sure I had to do it via script.

I decided to go back to 5.6 as I was having issues with SAM crashing and could not work out if it was the 8 database or not.

Been concidering moving to Maria instead, but not had the time recently.
