I use Sam 4.1 and have problem with mic volume - it's very quite. It reaches only -20 dB on mic volume bar. Mic volume is set at max in Sam and Windows, volume boost is on. At the same time mic volume at Skype or any voice recording programmes is good. So the problem is only when I use Sam. I tired Sam 4.9 and the situation is the same.

Look at windows settings for audio card volume in.
Are you using mix console to go to mic input?
Is the microphone Condenser if yes you need 48V to supply that thing ( actualy if yes it shoulnd get any sound without power ).
Chcek adjustments in equalizer settings under microphone icone or input in SAM adjust compressors and limiters, it is kind of Pain in the.....but it will get you much better sound on output, dont use stereo expander in settings.
On my own experiences when you adjust mic input make sure that your VU meter will never go to red it will cause distortion that is why i mentioned adjust limiters and compressor. It is better to stay in Yellow and SAM software will take care of this even when you record your show and you will replay it will sound great. I hope that this will help you. Good day! MG

At windows settings mic volume is max.
I don't use mix console and the microphone is not condenser.
I set all bars of EQ on max and it have done volume a little bit better. But at AGC there are so many different parameters so I don't know what should be changed. Could you advise?

[ At the same time mic volume at Skype or any voice recording programmes is good.

Check the mic settings in Skype and make sure it hasn't made itself the default control of your mic settings and is over riding SAM.

The default control in Skype is off. And I don't use Skype together with Sam, about Skype - i said it to explain that problem appears only in Sam, in all other programmes sound is good.

send me your email address ill make little movie how it should be done also, check audio card in your pc if it isnt damaged by accident or if you r using the mic input because microphone doesnt have as strong audio output as cd player so dont use aux input on audio card for mic. I just wrote my thoughts so dont take itwrong that im saying that you dont know what you doing pls, i had recently problem with encoders i couldnt upload stream and i was going crazy upgrading all firmwares ,switches and modem and it was my internet provider giving me hard time, just wanted to say it could be simple thing and u go crazy for long time and when you find it u say i sould do this first. Also check mic cable or microphone if there is no damage like cable or capsule - little nick and mic is history. Good day Marcel

Could it be because your mic plus isn't wired like your PC sound card (don't laugh gang, I see this a lot in the Commercial Broadcast arena).
..
Point...
I have a cheapie Multimedia headset. On the Dell SAM Computers it is quiet (doesn't seem to have enough sound). So I built a mic preamp like the one shown here:::
...
http://www.phoenixcomputerlabs.com/All- ... -Amps.html
...
Worked fine after that..
...
Then I plugged it into a Gateway that we set up with audacity for a studio computer... Boom, really loud (in fact too loud). So I took the preanp off and the headset worked just fine without it on the gateway...
...
Just for giggles I loaded one of the gateway computers up with SAM... Mic worked just fine..
...
Dug into the dell motherboards.... The Mic power lead is the same lead as the mic (microphones are 3-wirejacks, Sleve- common, Ring - Mic Power, Tip - Mic Audio). So the ring mic power isn't supported in the Dell Audio scheme.
..
Point: Cheapie headsets (and I'm not knocking cheapie headsets) can be wired both ways. Some have the plug wired with power to the electrete mic from the ring, some are wired for the power to come from the tip along with the audio. Some are even wired with both the tip and ring tied together. Since the mic audio signal path is tip active audio and sleeve being common - these headsets are not affected by which sound card audio scheme you are using.
..
If you are really curious you can wire an in line stereo audio cord with the wires stripped back. Put a 1.5v battery in line with the ring connections. If your mic on the headset is loud - you have figured out the problem. If you don't want o use the battery, tie the ring and tip leads together.
...
Me I just cobble a simple mic amp and power the mic amp with a 9V battery. So far my pre amp has worked for over a seven months.
..
Hope this helps..

When I first started DJing, I was using a cheapy headset/mic combo. The mic quality was bad, with feedback, distortion, etc. On the recommendation of another DJ who has been at it for years, I purchased a Microsoft LifeChat 3000 USB headset. I found mine on Amazon for $25.00. I have been using it for over a year now, and it is great! I've had no troubles whatsoever using it with SAM Broadcaster.

If you continue having problems with headsets that use the standard plugs, you may want to try one. Just a thought. Does anyone else use this? Have you had any trouble with it?

I'm no fan of headsets at all.
Unless you are willing to spend big money you are almost ever better off when using distinct systems for microphone and Headphones.
Cheap but good condenser Microphones can be found in music equipment stores or at online retailers for less than 25 EUR / 35 USD
I've got a Shure C608 for example. It's sufficient for talking and way better than any of the multimedia headsets you'll find at computer/electronics/hifi stores.
Especially if you consider professional headsets for broadcasting and tv start somewhere around 500 EUR / 700 USD
