SAM & MySQL are Not Connecting. This is a brand new machine build running SAM v2021.6, MySQL v8.0.27 running as a service. MySQL Workbench 8.0 CE connects to the MySQL Server, samdb database (schema) created manually. OS: Win 11 v21H2 build 22000.434 with latest updates. Processor: 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700K. MB: MSI MAG Z690, Tomahawk WiFi, DDR4, 32GB RAM. Everything is running on one machine. Other programs running on this machine include Libre Office, Firefox, Norton Security, dB Poweramp, Python 3.10, Tight VNC, Samsung Magician, MSI.CentralServer, MSI TerminalServer, RTKAudUService64, Asus Audio Center, Open Hardware Monitor, One Drive, MySQLWorkbench.

While running SAM Broadcaster Studio Setup:

In the Select Database System window, MySQL was already selected.
Login details for MySQL database: Specify custom settings(already selected)>Access mode: Local Server; Username: root; Database: SAMDB; Remote server settings (default, greyed out): Host: localhost, Port 3306.
Messages after entering all information:
Unable to connect to database. Please make sure the database server is properly installed and running. Also make sure your database login details are correct. Next screen: Failed to create, upgrade or configure database. Please check settings and try again. I’ve gone through this Setup series many times with different adjustments, thinking I had the answer, but no!

I’ve spent several hours every day over the last week searching Google, & FAQs for all 3 systems ending down in Rabbit HOles. I only found one SAM forum topic in the last year that addressed a similar problem. From User dan40, on 12-2-21: The solution is to install MySQL Workbench on my SQL server, and under (server)>“Users and Privileges” add a % sign in the “From Host” box for root and samusr. I placed a % for root user, created samusr account. No Joy. I’ve installed and administered several instances of SAM and MySQL in the last 20 years and thought I was proficient at overcoming problems...

Thank you for considering this problem and any suggestions you can give.

I had similar issues for days trying to connect sam to mysql database, but ended up using MariaDB. One of the best choice I made by discontinuing to use MYSQL. Also just a suggestion as Windows 11 is currently not compatible with SAM. I have escalated the issue to the support team and waiting for a response. SAM keeps crashing every day or sometimes every two days. It is a lot of work to downgrade to Windows 10 for me so I am still waiting for a solution from Spacial.

I ran into this issue, and the solution is pretty simple. When installing a new instance of MySQL 8, the default authentication mechanism changed to be "caching_sha2_password" from what it used to be for MySQL 5. SAM is not able to use the newer authentication method. When creating the user account for your SAMDB, just specify the older standard authentication type, and SAM should be able to connect to it.
